Bringing Stories to Life on World Book Day!
The children and staff had a fantastic World Book Day this year! Everybody put lots of time in to creating costumes so that they could become their favourite book characters. This led to a brilliant fancy dress parade, outside in the Spring sunshine, were characters including Dr Seuss’ Cat in the Hat and David Walliams’ Mr Stink were awarded prizes for their efforts! Staff got involved too, thinking carefully about their own costumes, which included The Gruffalo, Madam Hooch from Hogwarts’ School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and Willy Wonka. ‘Warhorse’ also took part in the parade leaving rather a mess in his wake, much to the amusement of the children!
We also held a story-writing competition this year, to help encourage all of our budding authors. There was a great response right across school, from the youngest children in the Nursery class right through to the Year 6’s. Each year group were given 3 characters from popular stories that they had to work in to a story of their own and the results were wonderful. The children really let their imaginations run wild, creating various scenarios that would see characters such as Horrid Henry bumping in to Captain Hook and Winnie the Witch trying to cast spells on poor Elmer the elephant.
The festivities lasted all day long with the children writing book reviews and character descriptions and sharing their favourite stories with their classmates. It was lovely to see the children showing such great enthusiasm for literacy and really was a truly magical day – roll on World Book Day 2013!
