On June 16th there will be a rare opportunity to hear Professor Ian Tracey play the organ at a concert in St.Andrew’s Church, Rowson Street, New Brighton.
In 1980 Ian Tracey became the youngest Cathedral Organist in the country and after 27 years service, the Dean and Chapter of Liverpool Cathedral created the post of Organist Titulaire, allowing him the freedom to devote more time to playing, lecturing, recording and writing.
Ian has played at most of the major venues in the country and is very much in demand in the USA. He has undertaken major tours of Southern Australia. Lately he has played in New York, Seattle, San Francisco, Bermuda, Paris, Cologne and Spain. He is also organist to the City of Liverpool and Chorus Master to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society.
Ian will play at the Charity Concert being given by the Oldershaw Singers which were formed in 1979 by Dorothy McIlhagga, then the head of Music and Performing Arts at the Oldershaw School. Since retirement she has continued to inspire audiences and choirs with her love of choral music. Last year she conducted at both Worcester and Hereford Cathedrals.
Over the years the Singers have made many thousands of pounds for charitable causes and only recently donated £1000 to Arrowe Park Eye Hospital and £1000 to Cancer Research UK.
Tickets for the Concert are £5 from choir members or payable at the door
