MEDIA RELEASE FROM WIRRAL COUNCIL
March 17th 2011
Another year of free insulation for Wirral residents
The Council has committed an extra £1.049m towards the Cosy Homes free insulation Programme for the coming financial year, bringing the year’s budget to £2.098m.
A total of 6,350 insulation measures have either already been installed or are about to be installed in 5,520 homes and a further 2,000 residents are receiving surveys for work in the next few weeks.
The Programme, which has also created 30 jobs locally, aims to install 34,500 insulation measures by May 2012.
As part of the scheme, free loft and cavity wall insulation will be offered, subject to a technical survey and a maximum grant allowance, along with referrals into other initiatives which may reduce fuel bills or increase household income.
There are no set criteria for applicants; the scheme will be open to everyone living in a privately owned or rented home on a first-come first-served basis.
Certain Wards in Wirral, with higher than average rates of fuel poverty, will receive increased promotion of the scheme, with energy assessors visiting households door-to-door.
Anyone who may be interested should contact the Energy Saving Trust advice centre on freephone 0800 512 012 or can apply by visiting www.wirral.gov.uk/freeinsulation.
